Green thoughts

We are humbly taking small steps towards less climate impact.

Small steps towards less climate impact

It is a long journey for us as a small company to become aware of our possibilities and reduce our impact on the planet in a more sustainable way.

Business House of Southern Jutland and Business Kolding helps us with how to drive meaningful change towards being more climate friendly.

 

We have taken small steps in the right direction:

  • Our entire facility is powered by a green energy, with a lifetime agreement for wind power
  • We re-cycle our Test Center food and pet food waste for biogas production, by Daka ReFood – pure bioenergy
  • We support our employees’ food  waste re-cycling behaviour with the REFOOD certification (see label below)
  • Besides the Daka initiative, we already sort all company waste for national re-cycling, inline the newest danish regulations of (minimum) 13 waste types.
  • We have built a state-of-the art energy efficient cooling/freezer room
  • We have installed LED lights and sensors in big parts of the building

In the future we want to:

  • We are researching lights and sensor solutions for the remaining parts of facility
  • We have a wish for own solar panels
  • We want to further optimize our technologies use of energy and water
  • We want to responsible dispose of and recycle our company work wear
  • We want to research the demand for and environmental benefits of recieving our customers used equipment for responsible disposal and recycling of waste ressources

Sustainable Recycling: Food waste into Bioenergy

All waste contains resources that we can and should utallize and recycle to benefit the environment. That is why we recycle our Test Center food and pet food waste. By using Daka ReFood – Pure Bioenergy’s service, we take a (co)responsibility and improve the environment by recycling your food waste instead of incinerating it. Daka recycles our food waste into biogas, biodiesel, and fertilizer.

Daka ReFood have full traceability on organic waste and ensure the best possible recycling. They specialise in the recycling of food waste, and we are well-versed in current legislation and the documentation is always in order. With their calculation see how much heat, fertilizer, and CO2 reduction our food waste turns into when recycled.

From 2020-2024, we sustainably re-cycled:

  • 68852 kg Test Center food waste, this potentially means
  • 21688 kg CO2 can be saved
  • 2720 homes can be heated for one day
  • 112267 kg carrots can be fertilized

Reducing canteen food waste

We have been certified as a member of The REFOOD Label, a community to “Stop food waste – support re-cycling”. With this commitment, we focus on reducing food waste in our office and canteen and help us with more sustainable initiatives and behaviors in our daily business.

We have implemented:

  • No single-use tableware in our canteen
  • Single-use tableware at events are reduced to a minimum, and made of recyclable materials.
  • We have defined the difference between food waste and food loss: food waste is (leftovers) to be recycled, instead of food loss, which is food not properly used for eating, maybe damaged or sent to incineration (down-cycled).
  • We encourage others to be inspired by the REFOOD label’s initiatives and work towards stopping food loss and supporting recycling

A little help for the Bees and wildlife

In support of the Danish initiative “Purposely Wild” (Vild med Vilje) we have dedicated an untouched wilderness area in the back of our premises. The initiative collaborated with Kolding Municipality a few years back in an effort to create habitats for plants, fungi and animals, and increases our common knowledge of nature. The initiative or movement enters into partnerships with companies, municipalities, associations and institutions. Together we promote a bit of CSR for our business. 

We have also a few years ago established a wildflower bed outside our office, to turn our grass lawn into a small bee-friendly oasis, that supports biodiversity.

The flowerbed has given both bees, bugs, and employees pleasure, as its beauty is a joy and decorates our events, when in season.
